Kate Bush returns to planet Earth

So finally she has returned from her long break who knows where. Welcome back Kate Bush! She has just released a single called King of the Mountain from her forthcoming album Aerial.

Here are the lyrics:

King of the Mountain

Could you see the aisles of women?/Could you see them screaming and weeping?/Could you see the storm rising?/Could you see the guy who was driving?/Could you climb higher and higher?/Could you climb right over the top?/Why does a multi-millionaire/Fill up his home with priceless junk?

The wind is whistling/The wind is whistling/Through the house

Elvis are you out there somewhere/Looking like a happy man?/In the snow with Rosebud/And king of the mountain

Another Hollywood waitress/Is telling us she´s having your baby/And there´s a rumour that you´re on ice/And you will rise again someday/And that there´s a photograph/Where you´re dancing on your grave

The wind is whistling/The wind is whistling/Through the house

Elvis are you out there somewhere/Looking like a happy man?/In the snow with Rosebud/And king of the mountain

The wind it blows/The wind it blows the door closed

KOTM is a dark and mysterious song which rewards repeated listening. It starts very quietly with indistinct singing by KB, then the mist clears and she is soaring with the clarity that we all know and love. The KTian sound is exactly as we remember. The BVs don't have much to do, but guitar and percussion have lots of fun.

Kate's lyrics are always deeper than you think they are. Her music is the same - it is deeply layered. KOTM appears to be about an ambitious and self-obsessed high-flyer who has not really got the hang of life. How many people like that do you know?!

I wonder what the "Aerial" album will bring. As for the name "Aerial", I suspect that it describes the impression that an artiste receives their ideas via a mental "aerial" that is picking up ideas that are floating "out there". Some people's aerials are definitely a lot better than other's! Kate's aerial is what the techies call ultra-wideband; it picks up everything.

Update: The news of KB's return has appeared here in a physics blog.

Thanks for the update on Kate the Great. I am often dismayed at how many people here in the U.S. either don't know of her or seem to think of her as a quirky oddity.

I thought Heathcliffe was a cartoon cat, and i still wanted to shag her.

I thought the same way as you back in the 1970's. Since then I have come to realise that KB has a rather beautiful mind.

Stephen. Now why do you suppose you are so fond of Kate Bush? What does this tell you about yourself?

Obviously you do not consider her a fool and you seem to be a keen student of her music and songs.

The world and universe now lay at your feet. If you want it.

She is a very good teacher!

You make an interesting, but somewhat cryptic, remark! Is this "world and universe" to be found in the "teachings" of Kate's music itself, specifically Aerial?

I know there is lots to be found in her music, but it seems to me that in order to understand her music you have to have already had something like the same thoughts yourself, otherwise your mind is not tuned in to what she is saying.

Let me (rather pretentiously!) quote Wittgenstein from the preface to his Tractatus:

Perhaps this book will be understood only by someone who has himself already had the thoughts that are expressed in it - or at least similar thoughts. So it is not a textbook. Its purpose would be achieved if it gave pleasure to one person who read and understood it.

Indeed, the first time I attempted to read Tractatus I failed miserably. It was only many years later, after I happened to have rediscovered some of the ideas for myself in the course of my research into artificial intelligence, that I came back to the book and understood what it was about.

Too early to talk about that, universe and world. You know a lot already and you should know that the word 'world' is useless without a point of reference.

And yes, there is Truth in what she teaches. Not the truth that we commonly regard as truth, but Objective Truth. You will probably hate the capitals, I did once :). Nevermind.

I have studied her music and lyrics since about 1980ish. For each album she has made she shows a higher level of development and 'til now Aerial is the crown of her Work.

And if you had no objective truth inside you, you would not even have listened to her texts. Nor felt it. You see, esoteric knowledge is, as all knowledge and everything else, material. The only difference is what frequency it vibrates in. This is, by the way, the objective definition of intelligens - the higher the frequency the more intelligent the matter is.

In your life you have obviuosly amassed esoteric knowledge. This amassment works as a magnet, so to speak, that will attract others with an amassment of esoteric knowledge.

Many makes the mistake to take it for infatuation, like was said earlier in some post, and wants to shag her. But when you know about this you will be able to go into a large crowd and directly pick out those who have this 'amassment'.

Our emanations are electrical but at different frequencies. We are like radioes, when you think of someone you are on this persons frequency and in fact sending energy to him/her. Or receiving. Nothing is separate. We, you and I, are connected.

"Just like a photograph I pick you up, just like a station on the radio I pick you up..."

It is no coincidence that we are having this 'discussion'. :)

What you tell me about this book you've read but first did not understand is more a question of actual digestion of knowledge, it takes its time. Then, when things are digested more and you read the book again, it's like a completely different book, that is, on another level of understanding and you describe it so well.

But always beware of false ego and false 'teachers' - taste the things they say, believe in nothing you do not understand to be true, trust your instinct regarding others vibrations, and rise above your false ego. (I am my enemy, mowing me over, and towing the light away) :)

Blimey! What can I say? I'll postpone my response to your comment above until I have unpacked all the metaphors that you have used.
